Free wood and woodchips

(plain simple, yes free. Continue reading below to learn how to get your hands on some organic goodness.)

Whats the catch?

There is no catch lol. We just need a place to dump this stuff. If we can get our truck safely on your property, we can deliver you mulch or wood.

Why would I want wood or woodchips?

Woodchips (or mulch) are an excellent way to enhance soil health and control weeds. They help retain moisture, regulate soil temperature, and gradually decompose, enriching your soil with organic matter.

Learn more about the benefits of mulch HERE.

Feel free to take some wood if you enjoy a cozy campfire or need it for heating your home. If you’re able to haul the whole trunk, it can even be used as lumber. Just let us know your preference, and we’ll leave the tree as intact as possible or cut it into sections (minimum length of 6 feet).

How to request

This is the easy part (so don't rush it!)

You DO NOT have to call us.

We would rather you fill out the form below and text us as if you feel you need to.

Instructions:

  1. Fill out the form below

  2. Include pictures of dump location

  3. Leave detailed instructions of where you need load. If no instructions are provided we will not dump.

  4. Then wait :)

Who should NOT use this free service?

  • If you’re not the property owner or don't have permission to request this service: This might seem obvious, but if you’re a tenant, please get permission from the homeowner before requesting delivery. Once we unload, the woodchips become your responsibility. No takesy backsies.

  • If you need immediate delivery: We deliver based on the nearest available opportunity. If you're expecting same-day service, this may not be the right fit for you. We will prioritize locations near our home base in Murrysville.

  • If you only need small amounts: We deliver by the truckload. Our bucket trucks or dump trailers can carry up to around 10 yards of mulch.

  • If you need a specific type of woodchips or have restrictions: We may deliver mixed woodchips that come from various tree species and may vary in size. The chips or wood may not always look uniform or pretty.

  • If there a restrictions as to what type of woodchips or wood. We may accommodate some: The woodchips we deliver may contain leaves, twigs, or other organic material. If you're looking for perfectly clean or finely processed woodchips, this service may not be for you.

If this sounds good let get you on our list! ✅

JP Tree Care’s Free Woodchips and wood Service: Important Information

How Big is the Delivery?

You will receive a full truckload of wood chips—this could be up to 15 cubic yards. We can’t guarantee a specific amount, and you won’t know exactly how much you’re getting until it arrives. The load could be as small as 4 yards, but that’s not common.

IMPORTANT!

A truckload of wood chips is significant. If you have too much, consider sharing with neighbors.

How to Prepare for a Delivery

Here’s how to ensure the chips get dropped where you want them without any issues:

  • Make sure the drop site is easily accessible for our crew. We'll attempt to call ahead (but we cannot guarantee a call ahead), so everything should be ready.

  • Ensure the site is large enough: at least 8 feet wide and 15 feet long, with space for the truck to maneuver.

  • Keep in mind, the chips will spill out on all sides. Clear any fragile items, like pots or garden decorations, from the drop zone.

  • Avoid parking cars in the drop zone.

  • If the drop site is along a busy street (speed limit over 25 mph), it’s not an ideal location.

  • Watch for low-hanging wires or tree branches, as our trucks need clearance (about 20 feet) when dumping the load.

  • If you can, mark the drop site with a clear indicator, like a tarp or cone.

  • Provide a backup drop location in case your first choice isn’t suitable (e.g., "If the driveway is blocked, drop the chips on the side of the road in front of the house").

What's Included in Your Load

Each load may contain up to 50% wood chips and 50% green material, such as leaves or pine needles. You may also find small amounts of unchipped brush, sticks, or even a few scoops of dirt or gravel.

PLEASE NOTE!
A small amount of debris is normal. If necessary, dispose of any unwanted materials yourself.

When Will it Show Up?

As soon as you place a request, you could get a delivery as early as that day. Typical delivery times are between 1 and 5 weeks.

Woodchips May Be or Become Moldy

As wood chips sit in a large pile, they naturally heat up and begin to decompose. During this process, mushroom mycelium may start to grow, which can look like white or green mold. You may also see a powdery substance that floats in the air when the pile is disturbed. This is normal and beneficial for your soil and garden. However, it’s important to avoid breathing in the dust.

We recommend wearing a dust mask while spreading wood chips. If you have asthma, breathing issues, or allergies to wood or plant material, it’s best to have someone else spread the chips. Once spread, wait about two weeks before walking on them.

If your requesting logs

If you're requesting a load of logs, you'll want to ensure you have access to a chainsaw and splitting equipment. There’s no guarantee the logs will be cut to length before they arrive. We won’t move, cut, or split logs when delivering.

Accidents Happen

Arborist trucks are heavy. If your driveway is thin, it may crack under the weight of the truck. Any damage to your driveway or yard caused by our truck is the responsibility of the property owner, not JP Tree Care. We don’t like the legal tone either, but it has to be said. It’s not like we wake up hoping to crack driveways!

By requesting the delivery of woodchips/mulch, you, the requester, acknowledge and accept full responsibility for the material once it is delivered. JP Tree Care will not move, remove, or take back the material after it has been unloaded. Any complaints from neighbors or other parties regarding the delivered material will be your sole responsibility to address.

You understand the risks involved with receiving large quantities of material, including potential damage to driveways, yards, or other property. You are aware that our trucks are heavy and may cause damage to weak or poorly constructed driveways. JP Tree Care will not be held liable for any such damage.

No Warranties: JP Tree Care provides the material as-is, without any warranties or guarantees regarding the quality, condition, or suitability of the woodchips/mulch for any specific use. The material may contain leaves, twigs, or other organic debris. You accept full responsibility for the use and distribution of the material after delivery.
