Tree care has been becoming more and more popular with the rise of the internet, for some, this might be the first time they looked into tree care, and understandably, you might also be wondering what's the how much tree care costs. Compared to the cost to remove a dead tree, tree care is a more affordable option.

Unlike tree removal, pruning or stump grinding, tree care is a little more complex, as there are different prices depending on what your tree needs... if your tree really needs anything.

Regardless, we'll at least give you some ranges on different services so you can get a better idea what these services may cost.

(Feel free to perform your own research on any of these services to verify for yourself the effectiveness of these services. Don't just take our word for it)

But first, here are some DIY tips you can do to maintain or increase your trees health

Trees growing in the urban environment are always growing under stressful conditions. This is due to many reasons such as:

  • Compacted soil

  • Poor soil

  • Growing out of their natural environment (the forest)

  • Not enough water

  • Nutrient deficiency

  • Herbicide/chemical injury (yes, draining chlorinated pool water towards your tree is NEVER healthy)

  • Mechanical injury such as mower damage

  • Improper pruning techniques

To help increase and maintain your trees health here are some things that you can do:

  • Water your tree when its been dry (if your lawn or your neighbors lawn looks yellow, its good sign that you should water your trees)

  • Mulch around your tree (do not over mulch, mulch volcanoes kill trees. Tree removal companies LOVE mulch volcanoes) A 2-4 inch layer around your tree is golden, read benefits of mulching here. --->

  • Remove excessive soil over the trees root flare if tree is planted too deep.

  • Avoid damaging tree roots when mowing.

  • Avoid paving or covering tree roots, tree roots need to breath and water must be able to percolate through soil.

  • Do not spray or use herbicides near tree.

  • Plan ahead when planting trees, select the right tree for the right location (In other words, you wouldn't want to plant a Red Oak a few feet away from your home.)

  • If you decide you will perform your own pruning, use good pruning practices, such as sanitizing your tools prior, avoid stubbing, avoid bark peeling, avoid pruning limbs larger than 4" diameter, avoid pruning at the peak of the summer heat, DO NOT USE WOUND DRESSING OR PAINTS on cuts (unless its a Oak or Elm in the warm months)

Picture from Jose's (owner of JP Tree Care) Jan 2024 trip to Mexico. For over 1000+ years, this Bald cypress tree grew healthy in its natural environment, unfortunately in the early 2000s, concrete was poured around the roots. Human interference is the #1 cause of tree mortality in urban trees.

Some tree pests can cause severe problems in your landscape if left unchecked. Early detection, prevention and early control is best when managing problem pest populations.

For example with:

  • Bag Worms

  • Mites

  • many more

Keep in mind that not all insects are bad.

Tree Pest Management

A extremely helpful tool in combating urban tree stress. Many times trees are planted too deep or are growing in compacted and poor soil.

Using super sonic air, this allows us to aerate, loosen, break apart and amend the soil around the tree WITHOUT damaging the tree. This allows us to improve tree growing conditions, prune problematic roots, and mix organic matter into the soil.

Soil care using Airspade
